Step 5.1 · Finish
Titles, descriptions and favicon
Give every page a unique title and description for search engines, and add your favicon.
Search engine optimization
SEO (search engine optimization) is making your site easy for search engines like Google to find, understand and show to the right people. Two tags in the <head> do much of the work:
- Title: the clickable headline in search results and the name in the browser tab.
- Meta description: the short summary under the headline. A clear description gets more clicks.
Write a unique title and description for each page:
Page Title Description (under 155 characters) index.htmlDe Stijl: Home How the Dutch De Stijl movement built a visual language from three primary colors. red.htmlDe Stijl: Red Red in De Stijl, from Rietveld's Red Blue Chair to Mondrian's grid paintings. Update the head of every page:
site/red.html<title>De Stijl: Red</title> <meta name="description" content="Red in De Stijl, from Rietveld's Red Blue Chair to Mondrian's grid paintings.">Check your favicon.
favicon.png(512 × 512 px, exported in step 1.3) should be insite. Every page already links it:HTML<link rel="icon" href="favicon.png" type="image/png">Browsers cache favicons. If yours doesn't appear, open the page in a private window.
Save all files.
