Checklist & assignment
Before critique
Include in your assignment
In your Project Strategy Brief, add a short Design System paragraph:
- Your grid (columns, rows, gutter, baseline) and why it suits the content
- Your three typefaces and the job each one does
- What stays consistent across spreads, and how you created variety
- Which reference magazines inspired the system, and how
Attach your Production Notes sheet with the exact specs.

Collect real magazine spreads you admire, then trace the grid on top of them. Finding the columns, margins and baseline in a professional layout is the fastest way to learn.
